Our brilliant programme of whole-class instrumental teaching, offered free of charge to all year 3 students in Flintshire, reaches around 1600 children every year.

We aim to give children the opportunity to learn an instrument in a fun and relaxed environment, whilst also building skills and confidence through singing, musical games and performances.

The programme supports the delivery of the curriculum, providing an inspirational starting point for pupils’ musical journeys. The sessions are co-delivered with a Theatr Clwyd Music Associate working alongside school staff, providing a valuable opportunity for classroom practitioners to develop their own confidence delivering music activities in the broader curriculum.

Many of our First Experience teachers use Charanga online resources. Charanga has also been made available through Wales National Music Service free of charge to all schools.

First Experiences 2024-2025

All primary schools will have 17 weekly sessions over the academic year lasting up to an hour. These will take place either September 2024 – February 2025 or February 2025 – July 2025. The 17 sessions will include an intro session and a final performance.

Schools will be notified which half of the year they will be doing First Experiences and allocated instruments. We will be in contact directly to schedule the sessions.

You can also buy-in First Experience Follow On sessions for the rest of the academic year (17 weeks).
